Meetings of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly on 23 January 2017

On 23 - 24 January 2017 in Brussels, members of the Baltic Assembly participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) and meeting of the Working group of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference on sustainable tourism. On the margins of the BSPC meetings, members of the Baltic Assembly convened an internal meeting. Delegation of the Baltic Assembly was composed by Aadu Must, Valerijus Simulik, Jānis Vucāns, Romualds Ražuks, Linas Balsys and Veiko Spolītis.

 

Meeting of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly

During the meeting, members of the Presidium discussed activities of the Baltic Assembly during the Estonian presidency, implementation of the recommendations of the Baltic Assembly, cooperation activities with the Nordic Council, Baltic Assembly, Visegrad countries and other international partners.

Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference

During the meeting of the BSPC Standing Committee, wide range of issues were discussed. Members of the Standing Committee analysed progress report on the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and progress report about activities of the HELCOM. Members of the Standing Committee exchanged views about BSPC engagement with Belarus. Members of the Committee focused on the coordination of activities with the Council of Baltic Sea States and follow-up implementation of the 25th BSPC Resolution as well as report of the working group. Members of the BSPC Standing Committee discussed also programme and priorities of the BSPC in 2017 and agenda of the 26th BSPC.

Meeting of the BSPC Working group on sustainable tourism

Tourism and integrated maritime policy and funding opportunities in the tourism sector with specific emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises were on the agenda of the meeting. Members of the working group discussed submitted answers by the national governments of the Baltic Sea countries in regard to special tourism systems on the regional level, flagship projects, taxes in the tourism field, national and regional “labelling schemes” regarding sustainable tourism, national and regional strategy for sustainable tourism.
