Trilateral Conference of the Benelux Parliament, the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council

On 22-23 March 2018 in The Hague, Trilateral Conference of the Benelux Parliament, the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council “Circular Economy in Education and Waste Treatment Management” was held.

Trilateral Conference focused on the areas where cross-border cooperation can bring an added value by, firstly, aiming at a better education and a better awareness raising of the circular economy concerns (inclusion in the education curricula, vocational training, the training of teachers, etc.); secondly, aiming at a more efficient waste management from the beginning of the production chain (reuse and recycling of waste, even for construction and demolition waste, green building, sustainable exploitation of paper, fight against the built-in aging and vigorously coming back on the idea of the recoverability). During the Conference, members of the national parliaments of the Baltic States, the Benelux and Nordic countries together with governmental experts discussed legislative frameworks at the European, regional and national levels as well as the importance of the public support facilitating the transition from existing production to more sustainable production methods essential for progress of the circular economy.The delegation of the Baltic Assembly was represented by Valerijus Simulik (Lithuania), Jānis Vucāns (Latvia), Aadu Must (Estonia), Kęstutis Bartkevičius (Lithuania), Romualds Ražuks (Latvia), Virgilijus Poderys (Lithuania), Veiko Spolītis (Latvia), Rainer Vakra (Estonia).
