In 2018, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee of the Baltic Assembly will focus on following issues:

  • Regional Gas Market Development (gas market liquidity, integration and competitiveness; infrastructure projects, interconnectors, new regional LNG projects; gas market rules, entry-exit system with common gas transmission tariff regime, pricing and possible socialisation of costs; increased supply security and diversification; EU financial support for implementation of regional solutions)
  • Synchronisation with the European Network
  • Baltic Energy Market Integration Plan (investments, electricity market integration, interconnections, generation adequacy)
  • Energy projects (NordStream II projects, Astravets NPP project)
  • Parliamentary oversight of implementation of the Baltic Assembly’s recommendations

 

The committee is focusing its activities on the protection of the Baltic Sea environment and energy issues.

The committee's title was changed by the decision of the 30th Session of the Baltic Assembly - from the BA Environment Protection and Energy Committee to the BA Natural Resources and Environment Committee, thus envisaging new priority areas, such as sustainable development, environment and nature, fisheries, agriculture and forestry, marine areas, climate change etc.

The Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council focus their cooperation on sustainable development and climate policy. See Action Plan for 2018-2019.

The Benelux Interparliamentary Consultative Council (also known as the Benelux Parliament) and Presidium of the Baltic Assembly have defined in their cooperation priorities collaboration in achievement of climate objectives (COP 21). See the Joint Declaration for 2017-2018.

The committee has cooperated with the Environment and Natural Resources Committee of the Nordic Council. See Action Plan for cooperation between the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council for 2016-2017 for more information. 

Committee's cooperation with the Environment and Energy Committee of the Benelux Interparliamentary Consultative Council (also known as the Benelux Parliament) started in 2006.
