In 2018, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee of the Baltic Assembly focused on following issues:

  • Energy package of the European Commission “Clean Energy for all Europeans”, relations with the third countries;
  • Electricity generation adequacy in the Baltic States (renewable energy: joint Baltic projects, support schemes for renewables);
  • Synchronisation of the Baltic electricity networks with the European Networks;
  • Regional gas and electricity market;
  • Astravyets nuclear power plant;
  • Nord Stream 2;
  • Implementation of Paris Agreement and the EU Climate and Energy targets 2030;
  • The consequences of climate change for agriculture (challenges and opportunities in the context of Paris climate change agreement)
  • Parliamentary oversight of implementation of the Baltic Assembly’s recommendations.

The Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council focus their cooperation on sustainable development and climate policy. See Action Plan for 2018-2019.

The Benelux Interparliamentary Consultative Council (also known as the Benelux Parliament) and Presidium of the Baltic Assembly have defined in their cooperation priorities collaboration in achievement of climate objectives (COP 21). See the Joint Declaration for 2017-2018.
