The Baltic Assembly (BA) is actively participating in the 33rd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC), taking place from 24-27 August 2024 in Helsingør, Denmark. This event brings together parliamentarians from across the Baltic Sea region to discuss key issues such as defence cooperation, energy security, and climate action.

The Baltic Assembly is represented by President of the Baltic Assembly Andrius Kupčinskas, Vice Presidents Jānis Vucāns and Timo Suslov, member of the Presidium Orinta Leiputė, as well as Andris Kulbergs, Chair of the BSPC Working Group and Vice Chair of the BA Economics, Energy, and Innovation Committee, Antoņina Ņenaševa, Vice Chair of the BA Health, Welfare and Family Committee, and Ilze Indriksone, Member of the BA Economics, Energy and Innovation Committee.

The Baltic Sea Parliamentary Youth Forum

One of the highlights so far has been the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Youth Forum, which took place on 24-25 August. This forum gives young participants the chance to share their ideas directly with parliamentarians. Baltic Assembly members worked alongside youth representatives to develop policy recommendations on energy security, climate change, and defence cooperation. These recommendations will be presented to the main conference, ensuring that youth voices play a role in shaping regional policies.

Key discussions and sessions

Baltic Assembly members are actively involved in the discussions at the conference. One of the key sessions focuses on Energy Supply Security, where the debate centres on strengthening the region’s energy resilience. Contributions from prominent figures, such as Sweden’s Minister for Civil Defence, are helping shape this important dialogue.

Another session addresses Safety in the Baltic Sea, with a focus on regional defence cooperation. The discussion includes input from high-level Danish officials, underscoring the pressing need for collaborative defence strategies amid the current global tensions.

The Assembly’s participation in this conference underlines its ongoing commitment to addressing the region’s shared challenges and ensuring a collaborative approach to solving them.
