On 15 October 2024, Vice Chair of the Health, Welfare and Family Committee Karmen Joller participated in the 4th CERN Baltic Conference hosted by the Tallinn University of Technology (Taltech), in Tallinn, Estonia.
Vice Chair of the Health, Welfare and Family Committee Karmen Joller welcomed the participants by noting the importance of teaching children science, as well as advocating on science, education and medicine on the Baltic level. She also informed about the stance of the Baltic Assembly regarding the initiative of the Advanced Particle Therapy Center for the Baltic States. After careful evaluation of the project, its benefits and challenges, and after listening to the Baltic experts in the field, the Baltic Assembly has requested that the governments of the Baltic States implement a full-scale feasibility study to assess clinical cases and epidemiology, technical aspects and business plans, such as available funding.
The CERN Baltic Conference is an annual event hosted by one of the higher education or research institutions from the CERN Baltic Group, aiming to connect and grow the scientific community in the Baltic States, working on CERN-related research topics. The scope of CERN Baltic Conference 2024 includes presenting the most recent results of the Baltic scientific community in CERN-related fields of research, as well as dedicated sessions for discussing national and regional level scientific policy, higher education and industry engagement topics.
The main objectives of the CERN Baltic Conference 2024 are to bring together the scientific community of the Baltic states and to provide updates on the most recent scientific achievements of the members of this research community working on CERN-related research fields.
