On 1 April 2025, the delegation of the Baltic Assembly attended the Theme Session of the Nordic Council in Helsinki, Finland. The theme of this year is “More unity – a new era for Nordic security and preparedness”, discussions focused on how the Nordic countries can strengthen their defences, civil preparedness and resilience to threats and disinformation.
Vice President of the Baltic Assembly Timo Suslov addressed colleagues from the Nordic Council by stating that the Russian invasion of Ukraine serves as a reminder that peace and stability cannot be taken for granted, adding that the partnership between the Nordic Council and the Baltic Assembly has never been more vital in the field of foreign and security policy.
“The resilience of the Baltic-Nordic region in facing geopolitical challenges is rooted in our unity. By working together, strengthening our preparedness and staying committed to our shared democratic values, we can ensure a secure future for our region,” he stated.
Concluding, Heléne Björklund, President of the Nordic Council, stressed that “for civil preparedness, the best solution is to get to know your neighbour.”
At the meeting, the delegation of the Baltic Assembly consisted of the Vice Presidents of the Baltic Assembly Timo Suslov and Giedrius Drukteinis and the Chair of the Security and Defence Committee of the Baltic Assembly Uģis Rotbergs.
