On 24-25 October 2024, the delegation of the Baltic Assembly attended the Conference of the Benelux Parliament which focused on climate adaptation, energy transition and innovative projects.
Vice President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns addressed the colleagues from the Benelux Parliament and shared the experience of the Baltic Assembly that regularly discusses all of the issues of the Conference in the context of cooperation of the Baltic States. "The Baltic Assembly has long prioritized energy security and independence. During our meetings, we agreed on the need for a long-term Baltic energy strategy. It would allow us to diversify energy sources by exploring various alternatives such as renewable resources, promote deeper integration of the Baltic energy markets and reduce our reliance on Russia, which would enhance our overall energy security," said the Vice President.
He also added that it is important not to forget the responsibility to support Ukraine. "The Baltic States are committed to providing urgent energy assistance for Ukraine's immediate needs and working towards long-term integration into the EU energy market. Our solidarity is critical to ensuring the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector and the broader security of our region," emphasized Jānis Vucāns.
The Conference was followed by a guided tour of the Port of Ostend. The port of Oostende focuses on continuity, growth and employment based on the blue economy, circular economy, bulk and project cargo, cruises and ferries, as well as the fishing industry.
