Baltic Assembly attends the Carpathian Sea Democracy Week 2025

On 28 April 2025, President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns participated digitally in the Carpathian Sea Democracy Week.

The event aims to deepen cooperation between Ukraine, the countries of Northern Europe, the Baltic States and other countries, consolidating efforts to bring Ukraine closer to victory, discussing possible ways to strengthen support for Ukraine and creating a platform between Ukraine and the countries of Northern Europe. The event is a prototype of Arendalsuka in Norway, which aims to strengthen faith in political possibilities and democracy through open debate.

President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns addressed the participants in the opening ceremony of the event by stating that the Baltic Assembly has remained strong in its support for Ukraine and stands for Russia being held accountable for its brutal aggression. “Ukraine must be a sovereign, independent country that has both preserved its territorial integrity and has the freedom to choose the alliances it joins,” he stressed.  The president also highlighted the importance of democracy and acknowledged this event to be an opportunity to celebrate it. “Therefore, let us protect democracy, nurture it, and defend it to ensure that future generations have the same freedoms that we have fought so hard to secure. To safeguard our democracy, we also need the victory of Ukraine, the long-term deterrence of an aggressive Russia, and a stronger alliance of European countries. A strong and united democratic European community is the most powerful response to the challenges of our time,” he concluded.
