Lithuania taking over the Presidency of the Baltic Assembly in 2024

In 2024, Lithuania is taking over the Presidency in the Baltic Assembly and the Baltic Council of Ministers. During the year, the Presidency will focus on ensuring that the Baltic region is confident in its security, development, and resilience, that the Baltic States are connected, innovative and sustainable, as well as promote unity, support, and consistency in facing regional challenges under the motto "Growing Strong and Resilient Together".

"The cruel and unjustified Russian invasion of free and democratic Ukraine has once again reminded us about the importance and power of having close neighbours and international partners. The Baltic States have stood united and continuously supported Ukraine and other Eastern Partnership countries in the new geopolitical reality of Europe. We know that to grow stronger and more resilient, we must support each other. The first formal efforts toward cooperation between Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were taken immediately after our nations became independent, and it has remained close to this day. This unity has been very important for achieving peace and security in our region. We will continue to insist on strengthening and intensifying the existing collaboration between the Baltic States as only through it will we be able to grow strong and resilient together," stated President of the Baltic Assembly Andrius Kupčinskas.

In 2024, the Baltic States will mark the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way - the day when Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians joined hands, forming a live human chain to protest the Soviet occupation of their countries. This year also marks 20 years of being in the European Union and NATO. Therefore, the Baltic Assembly will continue to highlight the importance of Baltic unity and solidarity witnessed during these important milestones throughout the year.
