On 17 February 2025, the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) Standing Committee will convene in Brussels to discuss pressing regional and European issues, with a focus on strengthening regional cooperation, addressing security challenges, and advancing sustainability initiatives.
The agenda will center on security and defence cooperation, including strategies to enhance cyber resilience and regional stability. Energy security and sustainability will also be key topics, with discussions on self-sufficiency and infrastructure resilience. Parliamentarians will address economic and environmental policies, including the bioeconomy, circular economy, and ocean protection.
Further discussions will review the implementation of the 33rd BSPC Resolution, financial planning, and preparations for the 34th BSPC Annual Conference. The meeting will conclude with an exchange on geopolitical developments affecting the Baltic Sea region.
On the margins of the BSPC Standing Committee meeting, a meeting between representatives of the Baltic Assembly, the Nordic Council, and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will also take place. During the meeting, parliamentarians will discuss advancing European defence cooperation to enhance strategic autonomy through unified policies and capabilities. They will also examine the role of Baltic and Nordic cooperation in navigating the geopolitical challenges of Europe and explore ways for members of the European Parliament and national parliaments from these regions to collaborate in defending their shared interests.
During both meetings, the Baltic Assembly will be represented by the President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns, Vice President of the Baltic Assembly Giedrius Drukteinis, and members of the Presidium Enn Eesmaa and Daiva Petkevičienė.
